LastRideMovie.com in Desktop Magazine

Simon 7th September 2009

desktop-sep09 I was flipping through the pages of this month’s Desktop magazine on Friday night, and recognised a few of the images in their “Webguide” section. In this month’s Webguide, Hugh Edwards reviewed feature film websites including those for I Love You Man, The Hangover, Transformers, X-Men Origins and Harry Potter. Of Last Ride, Edwards said:

“From what I have heard about this film to date, on DVD release through Madman, it looks like yet another great Australian arthouse offering. The website perfectly reflects the film’s darkly proffered themes of isolation and vulnerability while delving inside the complexity of human relationships and interactions. You just can’t go wrong when you cast Hugo Weaving really.”

Yep, that’s exactly what we were going for. I don’t know how much of what he said refers to the website and how much refers to the film (which it sounds like he hasn’t seen). But I’ll take it :D

You can read more about the Last Ride website on my previous blog post or see it for yourself.

Well done Sim! You should be seriously proud – I think I have mentioned this before, but the site actually feels like a DVD menu – only better :)

Thanks Charles. I am. It’s great to be acknowledged for your work by your peers and by those elsewhere in the industry, especially to remind you during those times when you feel like giving up. But more importantly for me, it’s a reminder of the people that you work with on a project and what you can learn from them and the experience. In this case, it was a pretty bloody fun and positive experience too!

Shit, I hope that didn’t sound like an Oscar® speech. I mean, it’s only a website!

I missed this – well done Sim!!

The website perfectly reflects the film’s darkly proffered themes of isolation and vulnerability while delving inside the complexity of human relationships and interactions

Take that whole sentence as yours. In a weird coincidence (is it appropriate to use an adjective before the work ‘coincidence’, doesn’t that fall under that Seinfeldian umbrella?) I watched ‘Little Fish’ today – another great Aussie-indie with Mr. Weaving.
