’Round Mooninite

What started as an innovative form of advertising for a Cartoon Network programme, has resulted in the Boston authorities crying wolf about a terrorism threat.
I guess Bush’s America could best be described as somewhere between the worlds of HG Wells and Orwell. Radiohead’s Idioteque also somehow seems appropriate. Let’s just stick to the topic of haircuts in the 70s.

- ‘2 Men Released…’ (AP)
- ‘…Was Artist Asked to Keep Quiet?’ (ABC US)
- Press conference with suspects (YouTube)
- Putting up the LEDs (YouTube)

I’d hate to say something which has been said over and over again since 09/11, but if this is what happens then ‘they’ have achieved their objective. Yes marketing can sometimes be obnoxious (did I say sometimes) but it’s not like it actually hurt anyone. So people were ‘inconvenienced’ for a day. So what! It did them a favour by breaking up the monotony of 9-5, ok so the fear of an impending t-attack may have somewhat counterbalanced that.
As for the emergency services, well, they got a chance to try out their skills in a non-threatening situation. Since they didn’t know it was non-threatening it made the experience all the better.
And why did this happen just in Boston?

Cos the other 9 cities weren’t so fucking stupid I guess. You’ve raised some good points. Also this is great marketing for the cartoon/movie. I bet they didn’t imagine this sort of press initially.

Maybe this will be as bad for them as the whole Michael Richards thing was bad for….. wait a minute.
