Another re-hash post of sorts: Last year I raved about how good Justice’s video clip for their single Do The Dance was. This year they’ve done it again (or at least design group So-Me have) with DVNO. Another clip full of typographic brilliance. (Found via New Work.)
Speaking of such, here’s some more great 3D type (via NiceFuckingGraphics), and some ‘Breathtaking Typographic Posters‘ (sent via email from my friend Olivia). Also, Typographica has an article on a guy named Jeremy Pattis, who did his thesis on ‘Twenty-Six Types of Animals’… pun included and all.

What a month it has been for the humble letter… the Germans re-wrote their language (again), legendary New York graphic designer Paula Scher sold out to Helvetica, Apple renewed font licences with Microsoft and The New York Times had a feature article on Clearview, the future typeface of US road signs.
Clearview will replace Highway Gothic, the typeface used on road signs in the US — which is also the one you’ll see on our Aussie signs. Clearview seems more classic in it’s letterforms — much like the English typeface Transport — but it is proportionality modern, making it far more legible than Highway Gothic.

Hang on Sim… you said that Pentagram’s Paula Scher sold out to Helvetica… what gives? Well, not exactly. She sort of sold out to HP in this campaign for printing and design. Besides, she used Helvetica Neue. And clearly light fonts are in fashion at the moment.
Meanwhile, in web geek land, the amazing Cascading Style Sheet (or CSS) is ten years old. And what better way to improve it than with… Truetype technology? I smell an advertisement. Maybe would should do something that will allow people to view websites that will translate better to print. OpenType anyone? Maybe Fontself. This looks like a better way for the future.
Phew! All that talk of type and web and I didn’t even mention the iPhone. Which reminds me of another shameless plug for some hype.
